A fair number of middle-aged folks can wistfully remember something they were doing when they heard Gloria or Rock and Roll Nigger. When The Kids These Days talk about classic rock of the 70's, they rarely talk about Patti Smith; that's their loss.

30th anniversary of public key cryptography

The Computer History Museum in the Silicon Valley will be holding an event celebrating the 30th anniversary of public key cryptography. The panel looks great, and Whit Diffie can still tell wonderful stories.

Hash functions in the future

As mentioned earlier, I was the co-chair on a panel at the Second NIST Hash Workshop. The panel was fantastic, and a zillion ideas for the future were bandied about. I have posted a long-ish summary of the panel (based on notes taken by others) for the benefit of the people who weren't there but want to know what to expect in the coming years on new hash functions.
