Alternative to the "melting pot"

...the concept of "the great American melting pot". I've never been much in favor of this whole "melting pot" concept because I'm more of a "fruit salad" type of guy. I believe that a grape should be able to remain a grape, and live right next to a strawberry, right next to a piece of cantalope, right next to a piece of honeydew and watermelon. We don't all have to become one uniform thing in order to be able to live together and get along together. As you know, when you make a fruit salad, the more fruits that you add to the salad, the better the salad becomes. Actually, the best part of the fruit salad is the juice that is left at the bottom, which is the juice that we are all born out of.
